Going into business on your own also allows you to target the exact type of work which you enjoy doing the most, and which you think that you can do the best job with, rather than just doing the jobs that your company hands you and tells you to do. You can even go one further than just taking on clients yourself and create your own products such with your designs and sell them online.
If you are going to go ahead and do this then you really do need to have a clear idea of what niche market that you are going to target. The more specific you can be in the beginning the better, because that will make it easier for you to start getting the first bits of work in and you can always expand the range of what you offer later on.
If you have very satified clients at the place you are working, make sure they know that you are setting up shop on your own! Your boss might not be very happy with you directly pinching clients, but if you just tell them the facts and they decide to follow you on their own accord then you have done nothing wrong.
